At least 130 Nigerians have registered for voluntary evacuation from South Africa amid rising tensions linked to anti-foreigner protests.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this in a situation report, noting that the exercise is part of measures to safeguard Nigerians abroad.

She said the directive followed President Bola Tinubu’s instruction for closer monitoring and protection of Nigerian citizens.

The Minister also confirmed that Nigeria has engaged South African authorities diplomatically over the situation.

The development comes amid renewed protests in cities including Pretoria and Johannesburg, raising concerns over the safety of foreign nationals.

Two Nigerian deaths linked to security-related incidents.
