The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks to be used in Nigerian schools between 2026 and 2028.
The ministry said the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise covers Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 and Senior Secondary School 1.
The second phase will cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2, with the same identification and tracking measures to be applied. Therefore directed publishers, schools, education authorities and procurement agencies to consult the official approved list before selecting or purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
According to the ministry, every approved textbook now carries a unique Ranking and QR Tracking Code, alongside information such as the title, author, publisher and year of publication.
The ministry said the new tracking system is designed to strengthen monitoring and accountability in the selection, procurement and use of approved instructional materials.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with the final list approved by Minister Alausa.
It said the exercise is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure that Nigerian learners and teachers have access to quality, relevant and curriculum-aligned instructional materials.
