The Kano State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abba Yusuf to urgently assist residents and farmers affected by severe flooding in Shuwaki town in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
The appeal followed a motion raised during plenary by the member representing Tudun Wada Constituency, Sule Shuwaki.
The lawmaker said a heavy downpour last Thursday caused flooding that destroyed more than 200 rice farms belonging to local farmers, washing away a historic bridge along the Tudun Wada-Shuwaki Road, disrupting transportation and making movement difficult for residents, farmers and students.
According to the lawmaker, the destruction of the bridge has also affected the socio-economic activities of the community because residents are finding it difficult to access their farms and move between affected areas.
He appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief materials and other forms of assistance to the affected farmers and residents.
The lawmaker also called for the urgent reconstruction of the damaged bridge and road to restore access and reduce the hardship caused by the flooding.
The motion was seconded by the member representing Gezawa Constituency, Abdullahi Kara, and was subsequently adopted by the House.
