The alleged theft of manhole covers in Benin City has remained a serious public safety concern, with residents warning that open drainage channels and uncovered manholes will continue to endanger motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

However, they said recent enforcement actions by the Edo State Scrap Monitoring and Regulatory Team, including the monitoring of scrap dealers and the disruption of suspected illegal scavenging activities, have helped to reduce the problem.
