The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, says it will open a digital licensing round for gas distribution areas across the country before the end of 2026.

The NMDPRA Chief Executive, Rabiu Umar, says the exercise will follow a nationwide gas distribution gridding exercise expected to be completed in October.

He says the initiative is aimed at expanding open access to gas infrastructure, improving investment and moving gas from production facilities to industries, power stations, homes and export terminals.

Umar also says the regulator is rebuilding the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code to establish clearer rules for pipeline access, while working with the FCCPC to address anti-competitive practices in the gas sector.
