The Edo State Government has condemned the reported abduction of 90-year-old Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemwen by unknown gunmen, describing the incident as reprehensible and disturbing.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the government dismissed insinuations that the incident may be politically motivated, describing such claims as premature, while details surrounding the abduction remain sketchy.

The Commissioner said Governor Monday Okpebholo has directed security agencies to work in synergy and secure the immediate release of Pa Iduoriyekemwen within 24 hours.

He said the government remains committed to strengthening security across Edo State, noting that the recent conviction and death sentence handed to four kidnappers by the Edo State Special Court was intended to serve as a deterrent to criminal elements.

The government called on members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the elderly man or his abductors to immediately contact the security agencies.

It also assured the family of Pa Iduoriyekemwen that every effort would be made to secure his safe return.
