The Nigerian Air Force has released the names of 25 personnel and passengers who died in Monday’s ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as President Bola Tinubu declares three days of national mourning for the victims.
The aircraft, NAF 931, crashed minutes after departing Benin City for Lagos on a routine mission.
The Nigerian Air Force said the 25 people on board comprised five crew members and 20 passengers.
The crew members were Squadron Leader MI Aburime, Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje, Flight Lieutenant IS Bako, Warrant Officer Abubakar A and Corporal Uguru HC.
The passengers included Flight Lieutenant TL Lazarus, Flight Lieutenant M Akinloye, Flying Officer IM Adeshina, Master Warrant Officer Onwuka F, Master Warrant Officer Matini BA, Warrant Officer Nuhu FS, Flight Sergeant James RB, Flight Sergeant Mohammed AI, Sergeant Ani AE and Sergeant Izibenikien SI.
Others were Sergeant Alafuka C, Sergeant Mbadugha AN, Lance Corporal Ugwuba FC, Lance Corporal Eledan GE, Mrs Ezeh Nneka, Godstmine Tarabina, Joy Micheal, Sunday Micheal, Ukeme David and Gideon Omotola.
President Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning for the victims and directed that flags be flown at half-mast across the country in their honour.
The President also directed the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a comprehensive investigation to establish the cause of the crash.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased, assuring them of the Nigerian Air Force’s support.
The NAF urged the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information as investigations continue.
