The legendary Olu Jacobs (Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs) has passed away peacefully at the age of 84. His family officially confirmed the heartbreaking news today, September 16, 2026.

His son, Olusoji Jacobs, shared the announcement on behalf of the family, honoring him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”The family statement shared: “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

From his elite training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London to his brilliant early career in British television, and ultimately his decades ruling Nollywood, he defined the gold standard of African cinema.

With his commanding presence, unmatched royalty on screen, and that unmistakably deep, booming voice, Uncle Olu paved the way for generations.

Through the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, co-founded with his beloved wife and partner in life, Joke Silva, he poured back into the industry until the very end.

Though he spent his final years privately battling Lewy body dementia, his impact remains forever etched in the fabric of global storytelling.
