The streets of Dumaguete City in the Philippines’ negros oriental province burst into colour on Friday as dancers in dazzling traditional costumes took over the city for the annual Buglasan festival, drawing crowds of locals and tourists.

Footage shows performers parading through the streets in elaborate costumes, bringing their hometown traditions to life with energetic dances. The celebrations continued into the night, with performers taking to the stage before cheering crowds.

The colourful spectacle also proved a hit with international visitors, who praised the performances and festive atmosphere. Known as the ‘festival of festivals’, buglasan is an annual celebration of negros Oriental’s cultural heritage, bringing together towns and cities from across the province to showcase their distinct traditions through street dancing, colourful costumes, music and cultural performances.

The festival takes its name from ‘Buglas’, the island’s historical name, and has become one of negros Oriental’s signature cultural events, celebrating the province’s history, creativity and local identity.
