The Benin Traditional Council says His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, has directed sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom, indigenes and non-indigenes residing in Edo State, to embark on two weeks of fasting and prayer, commencing from Monday, 14th to Sunday, 27th of September, 2026.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, says the two-week fasting period is from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The statement explains that the spiritual exercise is in line with age-old tradition that before the commencement of the consumption of the new yam, also known as Emorho, it is important that the indigenes fast and pray to God and the Royal Ancestors for peace, tranquillity, and to shield their families, state, and country from death and evil occurrences.

The statement urged Benin sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to also join in the two-week fasting and prayers without fail.

The Benin Traditional Council maintains that His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare the Second, prays to God and the Royal Ancestors to grant everyone peace and happiness during the two weeks of fasting and prayer.
