Liverpool moved to potentially one win from the Premier League title as captain Virgil van Dijk’s late header helped them beat West Ham United two goals to one at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah, who signed a new two-year contract at Liverpool this week, provided the assist with a splendid pass for Luis Diaz to open the scoring.

Liverpool failed to build on their lead and West Ham deservedly equalised when Andy Robertson turned the ball into his own net.

In the ninetieth minute Van Dijk rose highest to head home a corner and put Liverpool thirteen points clear of second-placed Arsenal with just six league games to play.

Victory means that if Arsenal lose at Ipswich next weekend, the Reds can wrap up the title by beating Leicester.

In other games, Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were dented as the Blues were held to a two-all draw against Ipswich at Stamford Bridge, Wolverhampton Wanderers moved closer to Premier League safety and heaped more misery on Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou with a four-goals-to-two victory, while Newcastle thrashed Manchester United four goals to one to move into the top four.
