Nigeria’s Ebola index patient and her spouse have arrived in Switzerland for medical treatment as health authorities intensify efforts to prevent further transmission of the disease.
The development comes amid ongoing contact tracing and surveillance of people who may have been exposed to the virus.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has identified 53 primary contacts linked to the confirmed case, including healthcare workers and family members.
Health authorities have activated emergency response measures and are monitoring identified contacts for possible symptoms.
The Federal Government says Nigeria could be declared Ebola-free in December if no new infections occur within the required monitoring period.
