Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has called on the Federal Government to speed up the rehabilitation and expansion of the Alau Dam to prevent a repeat of the devastating 2024 flood.

He made the appeal on Saturday during the traditional Sallah homage by the Shehu to the governor at the Government House in Maiduguri.

Zulum expressed concern over the slow pace of work on the dam project, warning that with the rainy season setting in, urgent action was required to avert another disaster.

The Borno State governor said after the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and expansion of the dam, the work is not progressing as expected.

He said he has notified both the President and Vice President on the present situation at the dam assuring that he will not relent until the project is completed.

The governor added that a state-level committee had been set up to provide immediate interventions while awaiting federal action.

Zulum also promised that his administration would connect all local government headquarters in the state to the national electricity grid before the end of his tenure.
