The Federal Government has confirmed that thirty-two persons were on board the military aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, disclosed this in a statement.

Keyamo said the aircraft, with registration number NGR 931, was en route from Benin to Lagos when it disappeared at about 9:13 a.m.

He said air traffic controllers raised the alarm after all efforts to establish radio contact with the aircraft failed.

The minister said it was later confirmed that the aircraft crashed close to the Naval Base in Igbokoda, where wreckage has been located and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

According to the minister, Preliminary information suggests that there were twenty-five passengers and seven crew members on board.

Keyamo noted that military aircraft are not under the control and regulation of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

He added that he has spoken with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and assured him of the ministry’s total cooperation and assistance in the rescue efforts.
