Nigeria’s Flamingos got their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign back on track with a two-nil victory over tournament debutants Puerto Rico in their second Group B fixture.
Following a disappointing two-one defeat against Poland in their opening match last Saturday, head coach Akeem Busari made key adjustments to the side.
Forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 25th minute, finishing brilliantly after early pressure from the Flamingos to give her side a deserved advantage.
In the dying moments, substitute Precious Oscar sealed the win by doubling Nigeria’s lead in the 93rd minute, ensuring all three points were safely bagged.
Up next for the Flamingos is a difficult encounter with defending champions North Korea on Friday, as the North Koreans continued their impressive start to the tournament after hammering Poland six goals to one in their second group game.
