The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, has rejected the parallel Assembly formed by 10 suspended members of the House, labeling it illegal and null and void.

Addressing journalists in his office on Thursday, Moriki emphasised that the state Assembly, led by him, remained the only legitimate legislative body authorised to carry out legislative duties in Zamfara State.

Moriki further dismissed the actions of the 10 suspended lawmakers, saying, those who organised the so-called parallel assembly last Wednesday are simply wasting their time, especially since the case is before the court.”

The faction, led by Bashar Gummi (Gummi I Constituency), rejected their suspension by Moriki, describing it as “illegal, unfounded, and politically motivated.”

They argued that a Speaker, who had himself been impeached by 18 out of 24 members, lacked the legitimacy to suspend other members.

They also criticised the government for allegedly prioritizing frivolous expenditures while poverty, kidnapping, and banditry continue to devastate communities.
