Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a bush combing operation in Esan South East Local Government Area.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu says the operation was carried out on September 30, 2025, at about 9:50 am by operatives of the Amedokhian Tactical Division, in synergy with local hunters and vigilante groups led by SP Peter Ogah.

The operatives, who were acting on credible intelligence, encountered the suspected kidnappers along the railway track leading to Ubiaja.

According to the statement, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the team, prompting a gun battle during which two of them were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

Items recovered at the scene include one AK-47 rifle with, thirty-three rounds of live ammunition, and two mobile phones.

The statement also revealed that on the same day, operatives of the same division recovered an English-made double-barreled shotgun with and two live cartridges during another bush combing operation around Idumogun Community in Ukoni area of Esan South East local government area.

Commending the gallantry of the operatives, hunters, and vigilantes, the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured the public of the command’s resolve to rid Edo of criminal elements.
