The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has cautioned his supporters to exercise restraint and tone down their confrontational approach to the political situation in the state.

Instead, the governor wants his supporters to follow his strategic steps towards enduring peace.

Governor Fubara who spoke for the first time at a public gathering since the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, sounded the warning at a ‘Night of Tributes’ held on Sunday night in honour of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark.

He noted that some of the remarks and actions of his supporters are unnecessary and contrary to his personal beliefs and principles of seeking a peaceful resolution to the political crisis in the state.

The governor also expressed displeasure that some speakers at the event chose to deviate from the main purpose of the gathering, which is to celebrate and learn from the humanity, sacrifices and undying dedication of the late Edwin Clark to peace, truth, justice, equity and fairness in the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as a whole.
