Veteran Bemoans Super Falcons Loss

Paul Hamilton, a former Super Falcons Head Coach has described the team’s 1-0 loss to Banyana Banyana of South Africa  at the ongoing African Women’s Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea as unfortunate.

Hamilton told the Newsmen in Lagos that the Kadiri Ikhana tutored team fell short of the expectations of its teeming fans.

In spite of the unexpected loss, the veteran coach urged the team’s handlers not to relent in their bid to reposition the team for future engagements.

He said “Though we lost 1- 0, it’s quite unfortunate. But Ikhana has done his best as the better team won at the end of the day”. The veteran also said there was need to come back and start thinking on what to do in order to get the team back in shape.

Hamilton, who coached the Super Falcons at the maiden edition of the Women’s World Cup in China in 1991, called on the authorities to resuscitate the women’s football league.

“We ought to have a vibrant women’s league in place, to ensure the steady supply of grassroots talent to the national teams”, he said.

Hamilton further said local league has a part to play, because, most of these players are from the league.

Banyana Banyana would engage Equatorial Guinea in the final on Saturday, while the Falcons would lock horns with Lioness of Cameroon in the third place match.
