
At least fifteen thousand, four hundred and twenty-one Nigerian-trained nurses and midwives have been licensed to practise in the United Kingdom between 2017 and March 31, 2025.
This is contained in the latest data from the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council register, obtained by our correspondent.
The NMC is the regulatory body in the UK and it is responsible for registering qualified professionals and investigate concerns related to nurses, midwives, and nursing associates.
According to the report, as of September 30, 2024, the number of health professionals stood at fourteen thousand, eight hundred and fifteen, but increased to fifteen thousand, four hundred and twenty-one on March 31, 2025.
It was gathered that Nigeria ranks as the third-highest source of foreign-trained nurses in the UK, behind the Philippines and India.
