The Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has strongly criticised the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission`s proposal to increase salaries for political office holders by overone hundred percent.

Peter Obi, in a post late Wednesday, described the proposed salary increase as a “shameless grab for more” at the expense of Nigeria’s struggling majority.

Mr. Obi said the recent proposal by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to increase the salaries of political leaders is causing widespread anger and bitterness among Nigerians stressing that many Nigerians question the necessity and timing of this proposal.

He emphasised that the proposed salary hike is “totally unjustifiable” given the economic realities facing the country.

Mr. Obi argued that the proposal exposes the greed and insensitivity of political leaders, prioritising their welfare over the desperate needs of the masses.

He also expressed concern that the Commission is prioritising the welfare of political office holders over security personnel, particularly police officers, who are grossly underpaid and overworked.
