Niger State Government has announced that all religious preachers must submit their sermons for approval before delivering them in public.
Governor Umar Bago made this known as a guest on a satellite television current affairs programme, explaining that the measure is intended to prevent harmful or inciteful messages.
Governor Bago who said he is not banning evangelism in the state however insisted that everyone going to sermon on Friday must bring his scriptures for review, and it’s normal, stressing that even in Saudi Arabia, the practice is on.
He said some clerics use their positions to preach anti-people and anti-government messages which can no longer be tolerated.
The Niger State governor added that security agencies would collaborate with the state to enforce the policy.
