The Federal Government and leadership of the organised labour met in Abuja over the minimum wage issue with the aim of finding a solution to the controversy surrounding the new minimum wage of thirty thousand naira.
The meeting held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment and both parties expressed optimism for truce.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige reiterated President Buhari administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers.
He said the meeting was to brief Labour about efforts the government has been making to ensure a new and acceptable minimum wage comes into being.
Ngige enjoined labour leaders in attendance to seek clarifications where necessary, adding that all efforts are geared towards averting organised labour planned nationwide strike.
NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said negotiation is no longer the issue but the submission of the new National Minimum Wage bill to the National Assembly and its prompt passage and implementation.
