Edo State Police Command says normalcy has been restored following a protest that erupted during the official launch of the Museum of West African Art, MOWAA, in Benin City on Sunday.
A statement by the Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, says credible intelligence had earlier revealed plans by some groups to disrupt the official launch,prompting swift deployment of personnel to the venue to avert any breakdown of law and order.
The statement explains that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika personally addressed the protesters, leading to a peaceful resolution and immediate restoration of calm.
Expatriates and other invited guests at the event were safely escorted to their hotels without any incident.
The Command assured that engagements are ongoing with relevant stakeholders to ensure all grievances are addressed through lawful and peaceful means.
While reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Police urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place across the state.
