Samuel Chukwueze brace and Alex Iwobi strike was not enough as Fulham fell to a 5-4 defeat to Manchester City in a Premier League fixture at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.
City raced to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Erling Haaland, Tijani Reijnders and Phil Foden.
Haaland’s goal was his 100th in the Premier League and it only took him 111 games to achieve the feat and sets a new record which was previously held by Alan Shearer, who reached 100 goals in 124 games.
Emile Smith Rowe pulled a goal back for Fulham in the second minute of first half stoppage time but three minutes into the second half Foden got his second goal to make it 4-1 before an own goal by Sander Berge in the 54th minute gave City a 5-1 lead.
Iwobi got on the score sheet three minutes after City’s fifth goal to bring the scoreline to 5-2 before Chukwueze, who came on in the 46th minute, got his side’s third and fourth goals on 73 and 78 minutes.
The win means second placed City, who are on 28 points, have cut Arsenal’s lead to just two points, on their part, Fulham occupy 15th place on 17 points on the log.
In other games, Cristian Romero’s superb 95th-minute overhead kick secured a dramatic point for Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United while Jack Grealish hit a late winner for Everton at the Vitality Stadium to sentence Bournemouth to a fourth defeat in five games.
