A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has dismissed as “baseless and illogical” allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he duplicated the recovery process of the three hundred and ten million dollars later three hundred and twenty-two point five million dollars with interest Abacha loot.

In a statement issued Sunday by his media aide, Mohammed Doka, Malami confirmed that he appeared before the EFCC on November 28 over allegations of abuse of office and money laundering connected to the recovery process.

He said the accusations collapsed under factual scrutiny and that his engagement with the commission on November 29 was successful.

Malami insisted that no such recovery had been completed before he assumed office in 2015, stressing that funds can only be deemed recovered once lodged into the Federation Account.

According to Malami, Monfrini demanded a five million dollars upfront payment and a success fee of 40 percent, later reduced to 20 percent terms the Buhari administration rejected.
