The Edo State Police Command has arrested a serving police officer and three civilians in connection with extortion, brutality, and armed robbery against residents of Benin City.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, The arrest followed a viral video in which a victim alleged he was abducted by policemen, dispossessed of his belongings, and intimidated.
The suspects were apprehended on Friday, 15th August 2025, after operatives of the Ugbowo Surveillance Team intercepted them in a silver Toyota Yaris with incriminating items. The arrested officer was identified as Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi, while his civilian accomplices include Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho.
Edo state commissioner of police, Monday Agbonika, described the officer’s conduct as shameful and criminal, and warned that there would be no hiding place for rogue elements within the Force.
He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, and unprofessional conduct.
The command also call on members of the public, particularly the victim in the viral video, to come forward with credible information to aid investigations.
