The Edo State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its sustained fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in Ubiaja and surrounding communities,b Edo Central Senatorial District.
The successes follow a strategic operational deployment earlier this year by the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, who personally led a security operation to the area from February 16 to 22, 2026.
During the six-day operation, Forests around Ubiaja were identified as key security flashpoints and subsequently placed under intensified surveillance.
As a result of the renewed operational focus, Men of the Ubiaja Division, on February 17, 2026, arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as 28-year-old Suleman Harruna, a national of the Republic of Niger residing in Kaba, Kogi State who had earlier been placed on the command’s wanted list.
Members of the Hausa/Fulani community also identified him as a member of a notorious kidnapping gang.
Similarly, on February 20 and 26th Officials operatives in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Army arrested 25 year old Ibrahim Kodo and 32 year old Orsee Iorzaa, of Omi Camp in Illushi, both of whom were identified by their victims as kidnappers and robbers.
In a recent development, on March 7, 2026, police Officers in collaboration with members of the Edo State Security Corps carried out a bush-combing operation in the Onogholọ and Akwocha forests.
The State Police Command said During the operation, four suspected kidnappers opened fire on the security team but were subdued by the Superior Fire power of the Police as One suspect was neutralized in the ensuing gun duel with three others escaping with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the scene were one single-barrel shotgun, one black facial mask, two live cartridges and two expended cartridges, while bush-combing operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing Suspects.
