Evbaguehita Noghama on behalf of Eboigbe-Esasonyen family and Patrick Oronsaye for the children of Princess Doctor Katherine Aiyevbekpen Oronsaye have reacted to the news making the rounds that Chief John Osamuede Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin had demolished a building located at Ekpenede Street, Ogbe Quarters, Benin City and seized the land.
In a statement jointly signed by both families says no building was demolished and no land was seized.
The statement explains that in January, 2025, Chief John Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin legitimately acquired a parcel of land measuring 50 feet by 100 feet from the children of late Princess Katherine Aiyevbekpen Oronsaye, who and in accordance with the terms of the sales Chief Adun gave Six months grace to tenant on the parcel of land.
This land in question was given by Oba Eweka the Second of blessed memory to his wife ,Oloi Aibieyi Eweka Nee Eboigbe Esasonyen and her father Chief Eboigbe, the Esasonyen of Benin built a house on it.
According to the statement, Princess Katherine Oronsaye, inherited the property as the only child of Oloi Aibieyi Eweka after she and her father Chief Eboigbe passed away in the 1930s and 1940s.
After another cousin tried to dispose of the land, children of the Princess discussed the incident with the Eboigbe Esasonyen family and a decision to sell the parcel of land was reached.
The land measuring 50 feet by 100 feet was sold to Chief John Osamuede Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin in January 2025 and took possession of his property in August, 2025 as earlier agreed.
The statement clarified that the demolition of the structure and takeover of the land is a figment of Mr. Igbinokpogie’s Imagination.
It concludes that Chief Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin only took possession of his legitimate property.
