Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt along Benin–Akure Road, rescuing eight passengers, including three children, from the hands of suspected kidnappers.
According to a statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the incident occurred on Saturday, 25th October 2025 between Obarenren and Odunwongie Communities in Ekiadolor Division, Ovia North East local government area.
The Command said it received a distress call after a Hummer Bus was attacked by armed men.
The statement explains that Fifteen passengers were said to have been taken into the nearby bush during the attack.
In a swift response to the distress call, police operatives from Ekiadolor Division were deployed to the area and pursued the kidnappers into the forest, successfully rescuing eight victims unhurt.
However, seven other passengers are still unaccounted for, as the Command says efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe rescue.
The Edo State Police Command stated that an aggressive manhunt for the kidnappers is underway, with technological support being deployed, while the driver of the vehicle is assisting investigators.
The Command appealed to residents and commuters to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation.
