This follows recent reports of criminal elements targeting POS operators, especially those working in isolated or poorly secured locations.
The warning was contained in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu.
It comes after a strategic meeting held at the Command’s Headquarters in Benin City between CP Agbonika and the Executive members of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria, AMMBAN.
At the meeting, both parties agreed to collaborate closely to enhance the safety and security of POS operators and their customers throughout Edo State.
The advisory urges POS operators to take several precautionary measures, including operating only in well-lit, busy areas, limiting the amount of cash kept on hand, staying alert and vigilant at all times, installing CCTV cameras where possible, controlling access to their business premises, avoiding night-time operations and being cautious of unfamiliar customers.
Further, the police encourage all POS operators to keep emergency contact numbers readily available and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
