
Edo State Police Command has further demonstrated its commitment in combating cult operations and restoring public confidence with the arrest of sixteen suspected cultists and recovery of five firearms, 18 rounds of ammunition, and two battle axes.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, CSP Joel Yamu.
The statement confirmed the arrest of members of rival cult groups such as Maphites, Vikings, Aye Confraternity, and the Neo Black Movement also known as Black Axe.
The statement explains that a raid by the police in Amagba community on the residence of the suspects led to the recovery of one automatic double-barrel shotgun, ten live cartridges, and a face cap bearing the logo of Aye Confraternity.
Similarly, 33-year-old Salami, identified as a member of the Maphite Confraternity and linked to the recent killing of three vigilante members along Wire Road in Benin City, was arrested.
The Police Image Maker stated that all suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured the public of the Command’s sustained fight against cultism and urged residents to report suspicious activities without hesitation.
