Edo Community e.V. Kassel, Germany, at the weekend inaugurated another newly reconstructed housing block comprising four apartments at the Ossiomo Leprosy Home in Ogan, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, to address the shelter needs of residents at the facility.
Edo Community e.V. Kassel, a non-profit organisation based in Hessen, Germany, and made up of Edo indigenes in the diaspora, said the gesture forms part of its ongoing commitment to improving living conditions at the rehabilitation centre.
The newly inaugurated block is the third housing facility rebuilt by the group from the foundation, following similar interventions completed in 2019 and 2022.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Osagie Igbinigie, commended Edo Community e.V. Kassel for its sustained support since the rehabilitation efforts began in 2018.
Dr. Igbinigie highlighted some of the organisation’s interventions, including the installation of a water tank and pumping system, electricity supply, kitchen structures, and sanitary facilities, which were previously absent at the centre.
He also acknowledged the dedication of the association’s leadership, particularly its President, Mr. Lando Treasure Eguavoen, noting that his visit to Germany exposed him to the diaspora community’s passion and collective sacrifice driving the humanitarian projects.
The Community Chairman, Mr. Peter Enabulele, lauded the group for touching lives and prayed for God’s continued upliftment of all members of Edo Community e.V. Kassel.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Josephine Omokhai, recalled meeting the group in 2019 during the completion of the first project, when members promised to build her a special home after witnessing the poor condition of her former residence.
The Ossiomo Leprosy Home, located in Ogan community, serves as a rehabilitation and resettlement centre for persons affected by leprosy.
Its mandate includes physical care, empowerment, social inclusion, and reintegration into society.
