The Benin Royal Family has sternly warned those who over the week have attempted to link the sacred and revered Palace of the Oba of Benin to the assault on a Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki in Benin City to desist from the act or face dire consequences.
A statement jointly signed by the Odion’Egbee of the Benin Royal Family, Prince Nikaro Eweka and Secretary of the Family, Dr Kayode Eweka, observes that it has come to their attention, with profound dismay, that certain malicious elements and agents of discord have attempted to link the sacred and revered Palace of the Oba of Benin to the recent assault on Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, stating in the strongest possible terms that the Palace of the Oba of Benin did not, in any way, support, authorize, encourage, or give any form of approval for this act.
The statement adds that such a suggestion is not only false but is a grave affront to the centuries-old dignity, peace, and justice that the Throne of their ancestors represents, noting that the Oba of Benin is the father of all, a symbol of unity, and a custodian of sacred laws that abhor violence against any son or daughter of the kingdom.
The statement says to insinuate otherwise is to display a reckless disregard for the Benin culture and the Palace of the Oba of Benin.
The Benin Royal Family consequently issues a stern and final warning to all rumor-mongers, social media misfits, and attention-seekers currently peddling these dangerous falsehoods to cease and desist, as the Palace of the Oba of Benin is not a subject for their gossips, a tool for those in desperate need of public recognition to toy with for cheap social media publicity.
The statement adds that the ancient throne of Benin is a sacred institution, revered for over a millennium, and it will not be dragged into the mud for online publication, mischief, and character assassination.
The Benin Royal Family says they are monitoring the reckless narratives, warning that any further attempt to link the Palace of the Oba of Benin to the said issue or any scandalous activity will be viewed as a deliberate act of cultural disrespect and cyber-terrorism, adding that appropriate traditional, social, and legal avenues will be pursued to protect the sanctity of the Throne and Family.
