
The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo has directed an immediate review of operations of the activities of the state government’s Public Safety Response Team, PSR.
The Governor also directed the immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a child at the Oba Ovoranmen Square, Benin City on Wednesday following an unfortunate incident which involved a commercial vehicle driver and members of the Public Safety Response Team.
In a statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Bugie Okhuemoi, the state Government said it will ensure that anyone found culpable will fully be held responsible, assuring that no life should be lost due to negligence or recklessness.
The statement emphasized Governor Okpebholo’s administration’s zero tolerance of any action by any government agent which disrespects, dehumanizes or endangers the lives of citizens, assuring that government must serve the people and not cause harm.
The State Government noted that a comprehensive review of the team’s structure and operations, particularly in the areas of personnel recruitment, scope of authority and engagement procedures with the public will be conducted.
The review is aimed at ensuring that all government-sanctioned activities reflect the highest standards of professionalism, fairness and respect for human dignity.
The statement also extended the state government’s sincere and heartfelt condolences to the grieving family for their loss and appealed for calm while the government works to address the issue with urgency and sincerity.
