The management of Presco PLC has reacted to a media statement credited to some persons from Orogho community in Orhiomwon Local government area, Edo state.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Manager, Presco PLC, Mr  Tony Uwajeh, the company described the protest of some of the youths in the community as unnecessary as the company has always supported communities connected to its estates in all parts of Edo state.

The statement explains some youths from Orogho community walked out of a meeting on social and environmental impact assessment panel review held on the Twentieth of March, 2024 organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment in Benin City.

The statement declared that Sokponba estate land of Presco was duly acquired in stages.

He said Presco later applied to the Edo state government for a certificate of occupancy over the said parcel of land which was issued on 17 June, 2013.

The statement said the second title land was de-reserved by the Edo state government out of the Urhonigbe forest reserve on the Twenty-second of February, 2021.

In all the processes leading to the acquisition of the land, the various affiliate communities were carried along and all the necessary dues were paid with documents available.

Presco PLC also noted that some communities that Orogho youths are quoting not to have autonomous status were sent to them as a community with their own status and wondered the cause of a sudden u-turn.

The company however promised to ensure that host communities are given a fair share in the execution of contracts where they have the capacity and ability to do so.
