Benin Monarch advocates for religious tolerance

His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare the Second, Oba of Benin has called on Nigerians to be tolerant of one another irrespective of religious beliefs.

The Oba made the remark when the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdufatah Enabulele led other Muslim faithful to pay homage to Oba`s Palace on the occasion to commemorate this year’s Eld Celebration.

The Benin Monarch contended that there should not be any form of discrimination against any religious beliefs, stating that any attempt to do otherwise usually results in disagreements, violence, maiming, and most often loss of precious lives, which should not be encouraged to trend, stressing that accommodation of each other religious beliefs brings about a deeper understanding of ourselves, peace, progress, and development,

The Omo N’Oba N’Edo further encouraged the enthusiastic Muslims to always accommodate each other brothers and sisters’ religious faith for better compassion for each other’s religion, which relays automatically to peaceful coexistence, harmony, and good neighborliness amongst the people.

The Oba of Benin further advised the different ethnic groups within the Benin Muslim Congress to embrace cooperation, unity, peace, and progress amongst themselves for meaningful development to occur in their respective domains which are the ultimate desires of the people.

Oba Ewuare II urged the Muslims Community to always render security reports to the Palace of Oba of Benin of their respective domains to forestall any security breaches and possibly to arrest unforeseen ugly security situations. In this era of security challenges, all must be vigilant to stall the breakdown of law and order in the society, the revered Oba of Benin averred.

The Omo N’Oba N’Edo exhorted the Benin Muslims Community not to relent in their fervent prayers for President Mohammed Buhari and other Governmental functionaries in the Country for God’s Almighty wisdom not to depart from them so that they carry out their assigned responsibilities without fear or favor and rule without bias within the conference of fairness, equality, and freedom as building principles.

On his part, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdufatah Enabulele profusely thanks the Almighty God for his magnificent benevolence and mercies for granting all Muslims and non-Muslims the graces to observe and witness this year’s Eld Celebration.

The Chief Imam led other Imams, Islamic scholars, and faithful in the Benin Muslim Community in the litany of prayers for Oba Ewuare II, his households, and the entire people of Benin and the Benin Kingdom for the social-economic, and political growth while expelling satanic tendencies and disaster away from the land.

Alhaji Enabulele traced the origin of the Eld Celebration according to the Islamic injunction for all Muslims to emulate the good virtues of obedience and sacrifice which are endemic and core to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed. All these propelled, guild Muslims to behave uprightly for others to emulate but regretted that the reverse is the case, particularly for Muslims who hold sway in Political leadership positions in Nigeria, stating that they exhibit indigent moral attitudes when compared to others who professed other religious faith, the Chief Imam contended.

The Chief Imam also harped on the endless insecurity and other social vices which have attained worrisome dimensions and advised the Benin Traditional Council to encourage Community Heads in the Benin Kingdom to constitute able-body youths in the various communities in the formation of vigilante groups to stem insecurity, safeguard life and properties.
