The Edo State Police Command has invited all political candidates and party chairmen participating in the August 16, 2025 House of Representatives and Senatorial by-elections to a Peace Accord signing ceremony.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 12 noon, will hold at the Nigeria Police Command Headquarters in Benin City.
According to the statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Peace Accord seeks to promote mutual respect among contestants, discourage violence, and uphold democratic principles before, during, and after the polls.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, urged political actors to attend promptly, restating the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.
He also called on parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid violence, hate speech, vote buying, and any conduct that could undermine the credibility of the elections and the peace of the state.
